Services & Treatments
Acupuncture and Chinese medicine, together, are a complete medical model that has been used for over 2,000 years to treat a wide variety of conditions. From an eastern perspective, health is achieved through the balanced flow of Qi (pronounced “chee”) throughout the body’s pathways called meridians. Like the water of rivers and streams, Qi flows freely to reach every aspect of the person’s body, mind and spirit to maintain harmony. If, however, Qi becomes obstructed or depleted, dis-ease will develop causing pain and imbalance. Our treatments are uniquely designed for each patient to help free the flow of Qi and restore equilibrium.
What types of conditions can Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine Treat?
Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a form of traditional Chinese medicine that has been practiced for centuries. It’s based on the theory that energy, called qi (pronounced “chee”), flows through and around your body along pathways called meridians. Illness occurs when something blocks or unbalances your qi and acupuncture is a way to unblock or influence qi and help it flow back into balance.
Additional Services
Chinese Medicine

Chinese herbal medicine has a rich history of more than 2,000 years. Today, the clinical application of over 350 plants, minerals and other organic material are used to address the underlying causes of disease both acute and chronic.
Herbal formulas are tailored to address the individual’s unique condition and constitution. They can be taken in a tea or pill form.
The herbs I use have undergone rigorous testing for heavy metals, pesticides and other contaminants, thus maintaining the strictest quality assurance.
Nutrition

Food is medicine, and in the Chinese medical model we implement dietary changes to optimize our healing potential. As with all things Chinese medicine, changes in nutrition are suggested depending on the patient’s constitution. While one patient may have a dominance of internal cold and damp, another may suffer from heat and dryness. The Chinese have constructed a framework to talk about the nature of foods. Some foods are warm in nature, while others are cold in nature. Some are dry, while some are damp. Additionally, foods may have one or more of the five flavors: sweet, spicy, salty, bitter, and sour that are used as guidelines for determining the best dietary guidelines for the individual.
Tui Na

Tui Na is Chinese medical massage based on the Chinese concept of energy pathways or “meridians.” Using knowledge of energy meridians, tui na helps restore proper flow of qi, blood and fluid to the muscles, tendons, ligaments, and joints. Generally tui na is more invigorating than a standard western Swedish massage. It is often added in at the end of an acupuncture treatment to further release constrained tissues and relieve pain.
Cupping

Cupping is an ancient form of Chinese medicine that uses gentle suction to open up muscle tissue and increase local circulation of blood and fluids.
In a typical cupping session, glass cups are warmed using a cotton ball soaked in alcohol and lit on fire. The fire is placed inside the cup and removed quickly to empty the oxygen inside and create a vacuum. The cup is then placed on the patient’s body and the vacuum created pulls the skin gently upwards. Cups can be left in place or moved along the large muscles of the body with use of massage oil stimulating the flow of qi, blood, and lymph fluids, and breaking up obstructions and adhesions.
Moxibustion (Moxa)

Moxibustion is a method of burning the herb mugwort (moxa) on specific acupuncture points and areas to facilitate healing. Indirect moxa is used in 2 forms; as a stick held close to the treatment area until warmed, or as a formed ball placed on top of a needle. Moxa is used to stimulate the flow of qi and blood and warm areas that are yang deficient or invaded by cold. It has also been used to turn breech babies. The sensation is generally one of pleasant warmth and relaxation.
